The Art Explored program brings art into downtown Royal Oak. Typically this program has featured two dimensional and three dimensional art located on the sides of buildings, and on city property with an annual rotation. Some Art Explored pieces are donated to the city by the artist for our permanent collection.
The 2022-2023 submissions deadline has been extended for outdoor pieces only. Pieces submitted after 5pm on May 31st should be intended for outdoor display only. The final deadline to apply will be June 14th.
The Commission for the Art is now accepting applications for the 2022-2023 Art Explored Program. To qualify, artists shall submit an application which includes a picture of the artwork and any finished dimensions. The applicant may ask us to consider a location, but the final location will be determined by the Commission for the Arts.
The artist will retain ownership of their pieces of art and get $1,000.00 if their piece is selected and installed. Some pieces may be purchased and added to the permanent collection. The Commission for the Arts will supply a plaque for the art. Applications are due by May 31, 2022 and will be installed later in the summer. Artists of all levels are welcome to apply, and there is not a requirement that you live in Royal Oak.
The submission deadline has passed. We will be reviewing submissions and making recommendations in July. Thank you to the artists who applied.
