Police Department Starts Cracking Down on Woodward CruisersRoyal Oak police will be taking a zero-tolerance approach to illegal activity involving cruisers on Woodward. It falls on the police every year, once the weather turns warm, to depress any unlawful behavior along the city’s nearly six miles of curbs on Woodward Avenue. Speeding, loud music, and littering are just some of the complaints the police department fields.
The summer-long activity is incredibly disruptive to the otherwise quiet, tree-lined neighborhoods adjacent to Woodward. Woodward Avenue – one of only 31 byways to be designated an All-American Road by the Federal Highway Administration – is host to the Woodward Dream Cruise annually in August. Royal Oak is widely considered the epicenter of the one-day event in August, which is regarded as the world’s biggest cruise, attracting classic cars and fans from across the nation. “We are proud of Woodward’s strong heritage and the role we play in keeping the Dream Cruise a safe event for its fans,” said Chief Corrigan O’Donohue. “But the neighbors and businesses along Woodard have had enough with the summer-long activity. For the last few years, we have tried just asking motorists to move along and enforcing the more serious infractions, however, it has become like herding cats and it is pulling a tremendous amount of police resources. There is no question that our residents and business owners would like us to take a more aggressive approach to resolve this issue” In addition to the more obvious violations, the Royal Oak Police Department would like to remind motorists that it is illegal to park on private property without the owner’s permission. Most of the businesses along Woodward have granted police permission to enforce this activity To report infractions as you witness them, please call the police non-emergency line at 248-246-3500.

11 Mile Road Garage is Open | 581 Parking SpacesThe brand spanking new 11 Mile Parking garage is now open!
It’s clean, well lit and easy to navigate—no steep inclines, tight spaces or columns to worry about opening a door into.
There are 20 handicap spaces—-most are on the first floor. The remainder are near elevators on each floor. Best of all it’s FREE during market hours. The rest of the week you get two hours of free parking if you arrive before 5:00 p.m. (That means if you arrive at 4:45 p.m., you park for free until 6:45 p.m.! Did You Know? Dogs Must Be Leashed in Public Places - It's The Law! Did you know it is unlawful to walk your dog in any public place, including city parks (other than dog parks) without a leash?
City code chapter 195, section 16B states: "It shall be unlawful for any owner to allow any dog to stray beyond his premises unless under reasonable control which is defined as "keeping a dog on a suitable leash, cord, chain or rope of sufficient strength while under control of the owner, member of the owner's family or other responsible person who has the owner's permission, and in all cases other than while confined upon the owner's property". As the spring weather gets more of us out walking and into the city parks for recreation, let's keep safety in mind for everyone, including our furry friends.
If you see a dog at large please call the non-emergency line at the police department at 248-246-3500. The nearest patrol car will be dispatched and if reported upon seeing, police have an excellent chance of addressing the issue.

Residential Lock Boxes Available at the Fire DepartmentWhen a person living alone calls 911 and is unable to open the door, firefighters must break through a door or a window causing costly damage to the person's home and wasting valuable time. The Royal Oak Fire Department’s residential lockbox program is designed to get quick access to adults living in their own homes during medical emergencies -- especially senior citizens. When you suffer a fall, stroke or heart attack, every second counts. The lockbox -- which contains a key to your home -- reduces the likelihood of property damage caused by first responders forcing entry into your home in response to an emergency call. The lockbox program is open to all Royal Oak residents who either live alone or are left alone on a regular basis and have a condition which may result in the need for immediate assistance due to being incapacitated or unconscious. This includes the elderly, physically handicapped or residents recovering from a major injury or surgery. For more information, go to https://www.romi.gov/1271/FAQ-Residential-Lockbox
