What Should Be in the Downtown Park?

Help landscape architects and planners develop the look, feel and programming of a future downtown park for the City of Royal Oak.

We're looking for residents to participate in a visual preference survey workshop. The survey will consist of a series of park images that participants must score according to their preference using a clicker. Your input will be used to make decisions about the future built environment and programming of the downtown park.

There will be four sessions on Oct 6; 10 am, noon, 2 pm and 4 pm.

Arts, Beats & Eats is Here!

Arts, Beats & Eats begins today at 11:00 am and runs through Labor Day. The festival is free to enter until 5 pm on today (Friday) only. Admission on Friday after 5 pm is $7.

Festival admission is $3 until 3 pm, $5 after 3 pm, and $7 after 5 pm on Saturday, Sunday & Monday.

Don't get a ticket or towed!

Please note, within an approximate one-mile radius from the festival, all parking in neighborhoods is on a permit parking only basis. Police will be issuing $50 fines as a deterrent. Residents may report problems to Royal Oak Police, who also have the option to tow vehicles if resident parking problems are an issue.

Talent Strategy Summit

The second annual non-profit Talent Strategy Summit is coming to Royal Oak on Sept. 12. This premier event is a great opportunity to learn and share strategies to recruit, develop, and retain diverse talent. Attendees can expect to be part of high-level discussions and gain immediate practical leadership skills. Richard Sheridan, CEO and co-founder of Menlo Innovations best-selling book, Joy, Inc. - How We Built a Workplace People Love, will talk about how to create an intentional team culture focused on the business value of joy and unleash the human energy and the results you always knew were possible. Darlisha Barnes, a native of Detroit, will speak on "Paint the Picture of Your Org's Culture from Recruitment through Retention," and Stefani Shaffer-Pond will speak on “Thin Ice and Burned Bridges: Navigating Difficult Conversations with Colleagues and Clients.”

Royal Oak Citizens Police Academy is Now Accepting Applications!

The Royal Oak Citizens Police Academy is an exciting seven-week course that meets once a week on Wednesday evenings at the police station at 6:30 p.m. Classes last for approximately three hours.

The fall session begins Oct. 3, 2018. Open only to residents of Royal Oak, attendees get an insider's look at the internal operations and challenges of the police department. You must be 18 years of age or older to attend the academy. All potential applicants are screened before they are accepted. You will be notified no later than Sept. 30, 2018, if you have been admitted.
