Police Department Update

Residents can find the most recent police reports on the city's website at http://romi.gov/963/Press-Releases

Citizens are also encouraged to sign up for crime alerts at crimemapping.com. Crime Mapping's goal is to assist police departments in reducing crime through a better-informed citizenry.

In his state of the city address delivered on July 11 at Oakland Community College, Mayor Mike Fournier told the audience, "Royal Oak is not a place to exist, it is a place to live and thrive."

Pass Safe, Save Lives

On June 29, 2018, Governor Snyder signed into law a requirement for motorists to give three feet of space as they pass bicyclists on the roadways. Additionally, he signed legislation to improve drivers education in Michigan to put a greater emphasis on bicycle safety.

Smart Recycling at Parks

The City of Royal Oak is experimenting with new recycling stations at Memorial, Starr-Jaycee and VFW parks. The smart waste and recycling system compresses trash so it can hold more waste than a typical outdoor trash can and it will automatically notify the Department of Public Service when it needs to be emptied!

The station has two different compartments -- one for recycles (blue chute door with recycling symbol, shown on left in photo) and one for trash (black chute door with a trash symbol, shown on right in photo). Go to https://www.romi.gov/1266/What-can-I-recycle to learn what is recyclable.

Please, do not put food items or other non-recyclables in the recycling compartment! When you do, you contaminate the entire load and everything gets thrown away, including any recyclables collected. :(

Remember, "When in doubt throw it out!" If you aren't sure if an item is recyclable, use the trash chute.

Library hours are: Monday through Thursday 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Friday and Saturday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Sunday 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. (September 10, 2017 through June 10, 2018)
