Parking Lot 4 Picture

Parking Lot, Sidewalks to Close June 5

Parking lot 4 adjacent to the Royal Oak Public Library will close June 5. What does this mean to you?  The last day you can park in the lot is Monday June 4.  On Tuesday June 5  the lot will become a construction site for the new 581 space public parking structure.  Surrounding area, including the sidewalk along south 11 Mile Road and the crosswalk from the lot egress to the Emagine lot, will also be closed.  Pedestrian and bicycle traffic should utilize the sidewalk on the north side of 11 Mile Road and crosswalks at Main and/or Troy Streets during the construction period.  The parking structure is scheduled to open in May 2019 and both the sidewalk and the crosswalk will reopen.

Record Setting Rains Wreaks Havoc on Park Grass Mowing Schedules

Did you know spring 2018 has been the fifth wettest spring in recorded history? And, all of this rain has caused city parks to be saturated, especially parks at lower elevations. Department of public service crews are working their best to keep the grass at each of the city's 50+ parks cut, however, it is definitely not standard operating procedures this spring!

Some parks remain too wet for any equipment to be able to cut, while at others cutting has to be conducted at a slower pace because the more efficient larger heavier equipment cannot be used for fear it will mire becoming stuck in the mud and cause damage to the park landscape.

Please be assured DPS workers continue to monitor the parks daily and with the cooperation of Mother Nature the conditions should return to normal soon.

Just 20 days to the summer solstice!
