What's Happening: Second Street Parking Deck

Work continues on the new seven-story municipal parking structure on Second Street, across from the United States Post Office in downtown Royal Oak.

When completed, the structure will contain 520 parking places, bicycle racks and first-level lockers. A 5,725 sq. ft. commercial tenant space in the northeast corner of the building (at the intersection of S Center and W Second streets) is also a part of the project.

Did you know?

  • The structure is comprised of more than 580 individual precast concrete pieces. The pieces are delivered daily and assembled onsite.
  • The shell of the structure, weather permitting, could be completed by Labor Day. This fall, electrical/mechanical elements, caulking, painting and other finish items will be put in place by the contractor.
  • Trees, new sidewalks and street lights will also  be installed this fall.
  • The Center Street deck will remain in place. The Second Street structure will connect to the Center Street deck on the first level (only) for vehicles. Pedestrians will be able to walk between the structures at all levels. (See photos.)
  • The parking structure -- again weather permitting -- should be completed and operational by the end of the calendar year.
