MDOT - Woodward Avenue Work

MDOT will have nightly lane closures for joint sealing work on Woodward Avenue in the area between I-696 to 14 Mile Road starting May 15th and ending May 26th. The work will begin at 9 p.m. and extend until 5 a.m.

A minimum of one lane, with a maximum closure length of 2 miles, will be open to traffic during working hours.

CAP1735 Road Reconstruction Improvements

Batavia Avenue

The contractor plans to remove curbing, driveway approaches and sidewalk on the east side of Batavia Avenue the week of May 15th in preparation for water main installation. Driveway approaches on the east side of the road will be replaced with crushed stone for resident access.

The remaining streets are scheduled to be reconstructed in the following order:

Fairview Avenue: Crooks Road to dead end
Dallas Avenue: Helene Avenue to Stephenson Highway
Kalama Avenue: Brinkey Avenue to Stephenson Highway
Brinkey Avenue: Kalama Avenue to Harwood Avenue
Lockwood Avenue: Catalpa Drive to Crane Avenue

CAP1715 Asphalt Resurfacing Improvements

The contractor plans to pave Phase 1 streets starting on Tuesday May 16th and the work is expected to last two to three days. Residents will be able to access their driveways during the work, though there may be slight delays while waiting for equipment to move.

The contractor plans to complete curb replacement and mill the roadways for Phase 2 streets the week of May 15th. The streets will still be open to traffic, but cars should plan to drive slower.

Work on Phase 3 streets is expected to begin after Memorial Day.

The contractor will wait to place sod / seed for Phases 1 and 3 until the sidewalk program in the area is complete to avoid damaging newly restored areas. More information regarding the sidewalk program is available below.

CAP1630 Special Assessment Paving Improvements

Bassett Road

Bassett Road is scheduled to be paved on Tuesday May 16th. Residents on Bassett Road will lose access to the road and driveways for approximately one week starting on Monday.

Girard Road

The contractor is planning to begin road preparation work on Girard Road the week of May 15th, likely later in the week. Residents will still be able to use the roadway, but congestion should be expected due to construction equipment.

S. Edison Avenue

The contractor will continue to test the new water main and plans to transfer water services to the new main during the week of May 15th. There will be a water shutoff for residents to connect the new water main. Properties that will be without water during water main connections will be notified via door hanger the day beforehand. Shutdowns are typically 4 to 8 hours long.

Wrenford Road

Wrenford Road is now paved and must cure for approximately one week before traffic can travel on the roadway. The contractor plans to replace sidewalk and driveway approaches in the next one to two weeks.

Massoit Road

Massoit Road is now paved and must cure for approximately one week before traffic can travel on the roadway. The contractor plans to replace sidewalk and driveway approaches the week of May 22nd.

W. Park Avenue

The water main on W. Park Avenue is now installed, and the contractor plans to chlorinate and perform testing the week of May 15th. The contractor also plans to connect individual water services and connect the new water main later in the week. There will be a water shutoff for residents to connect the new water main. Properties that will be without water during water main connections will be notified via door hanger the day beforehand. Shutdowns are typically 4 to 8 hours long.

CAP1535 Sherman Drive Construction

The contractor has finished paving Sherman Drive from Forestdale Road to the Sherman Oaks condos. This section of Sherman Drive (Phase I) will remain closed for curing during the week of May 15th, and is anticipated to be opened to local traffic the week of May 22nd. The east driveway for the apartments at 1125 Sherman Drive will remain open at all times for tenants.

The intersections of Baker Street and Josephine Avenue are expected to be paved early the week of May 15th. The contractor will also begin forming the north half of Sherman Drive east of Maxwell Avenue. Sherman Drive between Maxwell Avenue and the Sherman Oaks condos will remain open for resident access.

CAP1710 Water Main Improvements

Bellaire Avenue, Ferris Avenue, N. Vermont Avenue, Rochester Road

On Bellaire Avenue, the contractor will continue pavement removal and preparation for paving work. Paving is expected to begin in the next couple weeks.

On N. Vermont Avenue and Ferris Avenue, new roadway concrete is now curing, and the contractor plans to place the other half of remaining roadway concrete in the next one to two weeks. Concrete for the sidewalks and driveway approaches is also scheduled for the same time period.

On Rochester Road, the contractor plans to finish the water main pipe installation the week of May 15th, and will then chlorinate and test the pipe. The easternmost lane of northbound Rochester Road will have intermittent lane closures during work hours.

CAP1505 Concrete Street Repairs

Pavement removal and replacement work is now scheduled to begin during the week of May 15th. Work will start at the south end of the city, moving north on one side of the street. Once finished, the contractor will work on the other sides of the street, moving from south to north. This will allow the road to remain open during construction.

2017 Sidewalk Improvement Program

Work is scheduled to begin the week of May 15th, starting at the west end of the target area and moving eastward. The first work area will be between Delemere Boulevard and Crooks Road, south of 14 Mile Road. More information can be found at www.romi.gov/sidewalks.
