SLWA

Watch for letters from Service Line Warranties of America (SLWA) & HomeServe arriving in your mailbox this week.

Many homeowners don’t realize they’re responsible for the water and sewer lines on their property—until an emergency strikes. That’s why the City of Royal Oak has partnered with SLWA & HomeServe to offer reliable protection.

Since 2014, more than 7,000 Royal Oak homeowners have enrolled. Nearly 5,000 repairs have been completed—saving homeowners $3 million!

Compost Right

We’re making composting easier and more available for everyone!

WHERE TO DROP OFF YOUR COMPOST:

Bring your compost to the WEST porch of the farmers market between 7 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Saturdays. Look for the bright green bins!

WHAT CAN GO IN THE BIN:

Acceptable materials include food scraps, BPI* certified materials, coffee and tea. (Download the Royal Oak Recycling Guide (PDF).)

KEEP THESE OUT!

🚫 Plastic & metal

🚫 Non-BPI certified food containers

🚫 Plastic bags are our biggest problem—please bring your compost in a compostable bag or a reusable bucket.

*The Biodegradable Products Institute (BPI) checks if a material can break down safely in compost. If something is BPI-certified, it means it has been tested to make sure it composts properly.

RainSmart

The City of Royal Oak and Oakland County Water Resources Commissioner (WRC) will host a RainSmart Informational Event at Brown Iron Brewhouse at 6 p.m. on March 5.

  • Learn More about the RainSmart Rebate Program
  • Sign up for the Brown Iron Brewhouse event

You do not need to live in Royal Oak to attend the informational sessions. All neighbors are welcome! Sign-ups are encouraged as space is limited, and these events were quite popular last year.

Woodward Ave Corridor Plan

EXPLORE THE WOODWARD CORRIDOR PLAN and give your feedback!

The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) is developing an M-1 (Woodward Avenue) Corridor Plan  to create a comprehensive vision that balances the needs of all users. Here's what the plan will do:

  • Analyze operations and safety for all road users
  • Assess pavement needs and prioritize future projects
  • Consider environmental, community, historic preservation, and economic goals.
  • Evaluate infrastructure, geometric, safety, and operational needs for all transportation modes.
  • Coordinate with public transit studies by RTA, SMART, and DDOT.
  • Integrate sustainability and climate resilience best practices.
  • Establish construction cost estimates, project prioritization, and timelines based on current funding.

This plan covers Woodward Avenue from Adams Road in downtown Detroit, through Royal Oak, and continues to the Woodward Loop in Pontiac.

MDOT is committed to involving 11 communities, including ROYAL OAK, two counties, four modes of public transportation and spans a distance of over 20 miles in length.
