Absentee ballot applications have started arriving in Royal Oak residents' mailboxes! If you haven't received one yet, don't worry – you can easily request an application online.

Underground Railroad Network Adds Royal Oak Gravesite to List

The Hamer gravesites at Royal Oak Cemetery are now a proud member of the National Underground Railroad Network to Freedom. Huge thanks to Lakeesha Morrison and Donald Drife for their dedication in preserving UGRR history and stories!

What is the National Underground Network to Freedom?

In 1998, legislation titled the National Underground Railroad Network to Freedom Act of 1998 was passed, creating the Network to Freedom program. This program -- which is part of the National Park Service -- honors, preserves and promotes the history of resistance to enslavement through escape and flight, which continues to inspire people worldwide. Through its mission, the Network to Freedom helps to advance the idea that all human beings embrace the right to self-determination and freedom from oppression.

Calling All Nonprofits!

Starting September 6 through October 6, the City of Royal Oak is accepting grant applications for the new Royal Oak Community Opportunity Fund.

Funded by the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA), the Royal Oak City Commission allocated $300,000 to fund this local nonprofit services grant program. Grant awards between $25,000 and $50,000 will assist nonprofits who provide community programming with their recovery efforts from the negative impacts caused by the pandemic.

Transpiration Feedback Wanted

The Southeast Michigan Council of Governments (SEMCOG) is asking the public for their thoughts on a plan to change some things in the Transportation Improvement Program (TIP).

The TIP is a schedule of road and transit projects selected as priorities for funding by cities, villages, county road commissions, transit agencies, and the Michigan Department of Transportation.

2023 Citizens Police Academy Application

The Royal Oak Citizens Police Academy is an exciting seven-week course that meets once a week on Wednesday evenings at the police station at 6:30 p.m. Classes last for approximately three hours. The fall session begins on Oct. 25, 2023.

Open only to residents of Royal Oak, attendees get an insider's look at the internal operations and challenges of the police department.

You must be 18 years of age or older to attend the academy. All potential applicants are screened before they are accepted. You will be notified no later than Sept. 30, 2023, if you have been admitted.

When every second counts, the lockbox -- which contains a key to your home -- reduces the likelihood of property damage caused by first responders forcing entry into your home in response to an emergency call.
