Royal Oak Police Department Leadership

Royal Oak Police Department Awarded Accreditation

We are excited to announce that the Royal Oak Police Department has earned the State of Michigan Accreditation through a unanimous vote that took place on June 27, 2023 by the Michigan Law Enforcement Accreditation Commission (MLEAC).

Given out by the Michigan Association of Chiefs of Police (MACP), a nonprofit composed of 19 officers representing all geographical areas of the state, accreditation is a “proactive and ongoing ‘health check’ of [an] organization's defined processes and their execution.” The award is designed to encourage a culture of continuous improvement, increase trust and transparency, and hold police departments to clearly defined organizational expectations.

Organizations are required to meet 108 policies and procedures, that follow the MLEAC standards, and cover five different areas of general law enforcement operations, including: administrative, personnel, operations, investigative and arrestee/detainee/prisoner handling.

We are proud of the way our police department serves our city with dedication and integrity, and this award is another reminder of their commitment to continue growing and improving.

Stay Safe: Check Air Quality Conditions

The Michigan Department of Health & Services urges families to check air quality before heading out this weekend as smoke from Canadian wildfires continues to affect air quality statewide.

Check www.AirNow.gov for live air quality conditions. A higher Air Quality Index (AQI) means worse air quality.

Residents may also sign up for alerts through the EnviroFlash system. This subscriber system allows you to choose the area you would like to get alerts for, and it will send alerts directly to your email or send a text message.

Have questions? Call the MDHHS hotline at 800-648-6942 (Mon-Fri, 8 am-5 pm).

Lockbox Picture

Residential Lock Boxes Available at the Fire Department

The Royal Oak Fire Department’s residential lockbox program is designed to get quick access to adults living in their own homes during medical emergencies -- especially senior citizens.  When every second counts, the lockbox -- which contains a key to your home -- reduces the likelihood of property damage caused by first responders forcing entry into your home in response to an emergency call.
