A lot of you old-timers will remember the Montgomery Ward store at the southwest corner of Washington and 4th Street. Note on the right the Royal Oak theater and on the left the Kresge 5 and 10 cent store.
(Did you ever have lunch at the sunken lunch counters at Kresge's? The hot roast beef sandwiches were the best!)
My mom worked at Ward's in the 20s and they must have given copies of this photo to the employees. The Royal Oak museum displays a copy of this picture also.
The department store had wooden floors that creaked. A wide wooden stairway that took you to the second floor.
