I've been rooted in the beautiful city of Royal Oak for over 35 years, being a descendent of the first African Americans to live in Royal Oak.I take great pride and privilege to call this city home. My ancestors the Hamer family established a living in Royal Oak, in 1865.
Henry and Elizabeth Hamer worked for the Starr Family and after many years they were able to purchase acres of land between Crooks and Webster.
Today my family is blessed to still own a portion of that property, and it’s believed that we are one of very few Royal Oakers to still have ownership over land dating back to the late 1800s.
