The Friends' of the Royal Oak Public Library promotes and publicizes the services of the Royal Oak Public Library. They sponsor and assist with special programs, raises funds for materials and equipment and encourages gifts, memorials and endowments to the library. Friends' volunteer to help with library programs such as the free book program and the Summer Reading program. Others help on a weekly basis in the library.

Members receive a quarterly newsletter, early access to the Friends' annual used book sale, the satisfaction of helping in a worthy cause and tax advantages associated with your contributions. The annual membership fee is $10 for a single membership, $20 for family, $50 for a business or organization, and $100 for patron. 

Board Members plan fundraisers and other activities to support the library programs and services. Meetings take place monthly on the 3rd Monday of each month at 7pm.

The life membership fee is $200. To join, send the fee with your name and address to Friends' of the Royal Oak Public Library, P.O. Box 494, Royal Oak, MI 48068-0494, or leave at the Circulation Desk.

Joyce Ann Maierle Award

The Joyce Ann Maierle Award was created by the Friends of the Royal Oak Library to recognize the exceptional contributions of Joyce Ann Maierle, a long-time supporter of the Royal Oak Public Library and the Friends. During her long tenure as a volunteer, Joyce contributed countless volunteer hours, recruiting and scheduling volunteers for the summer reading program and the book sales, finding volunteers to serve as Board members for the Friends, and promoting the welfare and success of the Library through many other activities. 

Past recipients are recognized on a plaque in the Friends’ auditorium. Friends Members, Volunteers, Board Members, Library Staff, and Library Patrons can nominate volunteers to receive the award. The deadline for nominations is June 1. Nominate a volunteer today!
