Instructor-Led Online Courses

Gale Courses offers patrons access to hundreds of instructor-led online courses covering everything from health and wellness to creative writing, computer programming, GED test preparation and much more. These courses are developed by expert instructors, many currently working at universities around the country, and have continuous enrollment dates. Courses run for six weeks with two new lessons being released weekly for a total of 12 lessons. They are entirely Web-based with comprehensive lessons, quizzes, and assignments. This is a wonderful resource which will offer our patrons continuing education opportunities that they can access from their home or the library’s public computers.

Weiss Ratings Consumer Guides

Weiss Ratings Consumer Guides offers easy-to-use tools to help patrons navigate through nine important areas. Each easy-to-read, step-by-step guide is packed with accurate, unbiased information and recommendations you’ve come to expect from Weiss Ratings. Each 50-70 page guide offers a narrative about the subject, what you should look for when choosing a plan or policy, recommended companies to work with and so much more. Plus, each guide includes several helpful Worksheets & Planners to further aid your decision-making process. Weiss Ratings Consumer Guides offers easy explanations to hard-to-navigate financial decisions, removing the guesswork and confusion with straight talk and sound guidance.

The Royal Oak Public Library Butterfly Garden needs volunteers to help maintain the garden throughout the growing season. The volunteer schedule is planned for select Saturdays. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact Mary Ann DeKane at 248-246-3714.

The Michigan Department of Insurance and Financial Services (DIFS) put together a website to answer many of the questions you might have:

For more information on enrolling, Michigan Consumers for Healthcare created a website to help answer your questions:

  • Enroll Michigan’s statewide network of Navigators are available to assist you or your small business, at no cost, in understanding your enrollment options. As the name suggests, Navigators assist consumers in “navigating” the website where consumers must go to access the tax credits that make purchasing private insurance more affordable.
  • A list of federally certified Navigator or Certified Application Counselors for the state can be found on their website as well.
