Adult Services

The Adult Services Department purchases all the books, media and on-line databases for adults. Librarians staff the adult Information Desk, answering questions and doing research for the public. Librarians also can help you obtain materials from other libraries, recommend quality websites, and suggest great reads - both novels and non-fiction. They can assist you in making more effective use of the library's special collections and on-line databases. And don't forget to take advantage of librarian-run programs such as the monthly book discussion groups, adult summer reading, and film screenings.

You can visit the adult Information Desk or phone the desk at 248-246-3727 to find a librarian to help you with a specific subject. All librarians can answer general reference questions.

The following was emailed to Mr. Cafagna, North Star Saxophone Quartet:

Just a quick message to thank you for performing at the ROPL this afternoon. Although I have lived in RO for over 40 years, I have never been in the library's auditorium, nor attended any concert sponsored by the library. I thoroughly enjoyed the music and appreciated the commentary by Mr. Cafagna. That is not all, however. I had an interesting personal experience due to two completely unrelated events that worked together to bring me great comfort. The explanation: The 2nd anniversary of my husband's death is approaching. I have been sad. Today I was at the florist buying a bouquet for my daughter. While my order was being wrapped up I suddenly got the urge to add a rose to my purchase. I chose a beautiful red rose & took it to the cemetery. I have never done that before; never taken flowers of any kind to the cemetery. Later, at the RO Library, at your concert, your quartet not only played, "My love is like a red, red rose," but the quartet also read the poem. I was overwhelmed with gratitude. Thank you for the part you played, albeit unknowingly, in the consolation I experienced today. The experience today strengthened my Faith in our kind & merciful Lord. I hope I will have the privilege of hearing other performances by this awesome group of talented & very professional musicians!
