Winterson, Jeanette. The Daylight Gate. (2013)
This historical novel about the Pendle witch trials in 1612 brings to life 17th-century England during the reign of James I, the Protestant son of Mary, Queen of Scots, a Catholic. One of the novel’s key characters is Alice Nutter, who fights for justice when the women are accused of witchcraft at a time when being Catholic is considered an act of treason.
