Writers Workshop With Author Cindy LaFerle (Day 2)
Monday, July 15
05:30 PM - 08:30 PM
Friends Auditorium
As part of summer reading, the library is pleased that Cindy La Ferle will be back on Mondays, June 10 and June 24, 5:30 - 8:30 PM, to teach a two-part writing class as part of Adult Summer Reading 2013.
These days, everyone from your boss to your next-door neighbor is blogging or working on a memoir. Whether you want to craft the story of your own life, a blog post, or a personal essay that an editor will pay to publish, you’ll need to master the basic rules of good writing. This workshop will help you discover the following:
- The difference between “confessional” rambling and elegant personal prose.
- What makes your story different or original – and what to do if it’s not.
- How the practice of writing can change your life.
Workshop leader La Ferle is a nationally published columnist and author of an award-winning story collection, Writing Home. She writes a bimonthly column on midlife issues for Michigan Prime magazine, and her personal blog is carried by the Oakland Press and Daily Tribune.
Please bring a notebook and your favorite pen (or a laptop) to class. The workshops are free, but registration is required. For more information, call the adult reference desk at 248-246-3727. Sponsored by the Friends of the Royal Oak Public Library.
