Book Fair To Feature Homegrown Literary Talent

Book Fair To Feature Homegrown Literary Talent

Sat, Oct 09
01:30 PM - 05:30 PM
Friends Auditorium

Featured Programs, Adult, Teen, Youth, Family

The program will kick off at 1:30 PM with a panel discussion addressing how the authors wrote, published and marketed their titles. The talk will be particularly helpful for aspiring authors. Following the discussion, the authors will be selling and signing copies of their books and will be available to meet with visitors until 4:30 PM.

The panel discussion in the Friends Auditorium will be moderated by Cindy La Ferle, a popular Royal Oak author and the Library's first Writer in Residence.

"We have so many authors in Royal Oak – and many have achieved national recognition. This event will represent a sampling of books published by gifted authors in our community," says La Ferle, the author of the column collection Writing Home. "I also hope we'll provide encouragement for aspiring authors who want to learn more about writing and publishing books."

Among the featured authors are Judy Davids, guitarist for the Mydols and the author of the popular memoir, Rock Star Mommy, and Charles Hyde, editor of the Great Lakes Books series at Wayne State University Press and author of the ever-popular The Northern Lights: Lighthouses of the Upper Great Lakes, and several book on Michigan's automotive history, including Riding the Roller Coaster: A History of the Chrysler Corporation.

Other highlights include Gerry Boylan's novel Getting There. Boylan will talk about how he marketed his book with a widely publicized "hitchhiking tour" from Detroit to Atlanta. And longtime Royal Oak journalists John Schultz and Maureen McDonald will discuss the making of their new book Image of America: Royal Oak.

In addition to La Ferle, Hyde, Davids, Boylan, McDonald and Schultz, the following authors and/or editors are scheduled to participate:

Tom Weschler; Eleanor D. Payson; David Clements; Stephen Haffner and Steve Lehto.
