An Evening with Rodgers and Hart (and friends)

Tue, Sep 14
07:00 PM - 08:30 PM
Friends Auditorium

Featured Programs, Adult, Teen, Youth, Family, Live Music Series

Stu Johnson, Royal Oak resident and frequent speaker at the Library’s Jazz Series, will be returning on Tuesday, September 14, 2010 at 7:00 PM to premier his new presentation based on the music of Richard Rodgers and Lorenz Hart. Rodgers and Hart wrote the music and lyrics for over thirty Broadway plays and movies, creating some of the greatest songs in musical history. Many became jazz standards and are still being played and heard today, like Blue Moon, My Funny Valentine and Manhattan. Stu’s PowerPoint presentation will include a short biography of the two musical giants, introduce several of their plays and movies and entertain us with recorded versions of the wonderful songs as we view slides of the stars that perform them.

Stu says that “I think this is one of the best and most enjoyable presentations I’ve put together. Though not flat out jazz, it should appeal not only to listeners of jazz, but to listeners of popular music as well.”

The program will be held in the Friends Auditorium. Registration is suggested. Visit ropl.org, or call the Adult Reference Desk at 248-246-3727 to sign up for the free program.
