BARRETT, Marlene (Woods); age 78; recently of Clarkston, previously of Seattle, WA and Bloomfield Hills, MI; passed away on Thursday, November 13, 2014, after a 10 year battle with dementia. Cremation has occurred and a Private Service will be held at a later date. Marlene was born on April 29, 1936 in Detroit, MI to the late Earl L. and Marie (Banasiak) Woods. She married John Doherty on September 6, 1980. She was a pioneer in the financial planning services beginning her career at Manley Bennett, where she became the first female partner at the firm. She followed her career with years at E.F. Hutton, Merrill Lynch and retiring after 50 years in the business at UBS PaineWebber in Troy, MI in December, 2004. Marlene loved her cats, music, dancing, cooking and traveling. She is survived by her brother, Ronald (Judith) Woods of Seattle, WA; her sister, Susan (Ferdinando) Woods-Georgetti of Rome, Italy; nieces, Lisa (Trevor) Woods-Flake and Christina (James) Woods-Potts; great nieces, Abigail and Genevieve Potts; sisters-in-law, Frances Doherty-Riling and Marion Doherty; special friend, Hugo “Pete” Becker; various other nieces, nephews and cousins. She is also survived by her “daughter in the business” and dear friend, Colleen (David) Schon and “adopted” grandchildren, Casey Sage and Chad Schon. Marlene was preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Marie Woods; her husband, John Doherty and her son, Matthew Barrett. A huge thank you to her wonderful caregivers and friends, Kim and her team at Autumn Ridge of Clarkston; and to Lucy and Tanya of Grace Hospice.
