An Evening of Detroit Memories: Sanders Confectionary

Tue, Feb 19
07:00 PM - 08:30 PM
Friends Auditorium

Featured Programs, Adult

On Tuesday, February 19 at 7:00 PM, Greg Tasker, the author of Sanders Confectionary, will return to give his popular presentation on the history of Sanders from its first day in 1875 in Detroit. For more than 135 years, there has been no sweeter word in Detroit than Sanders. Does the mention of hot fudge sundaes or devil’s food buttercream “bumpy” cake bring back old memories? Fred Sanders moved to Detroit after the Great Chicago Fire in the early 1870s and started anew by leasing a shop on Woodward Avenue.

A Detroit icon, it served a fountain of memories for generations. As Detroit boomed, so did Sanders. At its peak, the company boasted more than 50 stores, with its products available in as many as 200 supermarkets. Sit back and enjoy the fond memories of Detroit’s favorite Confectionary.

Greg will be happy to autograph copies of his book, which will be available for purchase after the presentation. Sanders devil’s food buttercream “bumpy” cake will be served.
