Presented by Barbara Laughlin Adler, professor emerita, Concordia College, and regional coordinator of the Jane Austen Society of North America – Michigan. Austen’s critical and commercial popularity grew slowly after her death in 1817. She has gained admirers steadily though two centuries, but unlike other authors, in the past 15 years her fame has skyrocketed. Why?
