Hazel Morene (nee McIntosh) Callahan age 90 a resident of Royal Oak died January 19 2012 at Beaumont Health System in Royal Oak. She was born February 22 1921 in Athol KY. to the late Sherman and Chelsea (Coomer) McIntosh. Mrs. Callahan was a 1938 graduate of Highland Institute in Guerrant KY. and 1940 graduate of Montreat College in Montreat NC. She was a teacher in a one-room school in Jetts Creek KY. She moved to Michigan and worked for Dodge Truck on the Jeep assembly line during World War II. She was a substitute teacher in Madison and Hazel Park school districts. She was also a longtime member of First Presbyterian Church of Royal Oak and an ordained deacon. She is survived by her children Sybil Callahan of Royal Oak Deborah (William) Schramm of Troy Denise (Joseph) Savino of Novi and Jill Dennis of Royal Oak; siblings Norma Jean Imhoff of Kentucky Ann Armstrong of Alabama Jeanette McDaniel of Alabama Julius McIntosh of Alabama and P.E. McIntosh of Alabama; grandchildren Stephen (Julia Havenstein) Tillis of Royal Oak Kristen (Matthew) Winkle of Garner NC the Rev. Matthew (Dana) Schramm of Bay City and Joseph Savino Jr. of Denver CO; and great-grandchildren Nolan Tillis of Royal Oak Lydia Schramm of Bay City Natalie Schramm of Bay City Evelyn Schramm of Bay City and Hazel Grace Winkle of Garner NC. She was preceded in death by her husband Seaber Callahan on April 30 2011; sisters America McIntosh Helen Wells Mabel Strong and Justine Coffey; and brothers Harlan McIntosh Sherman McIntosh Jr. Eugene McIntosh and Gene Kelly McIntosh. There will be memorial visitation Monday January 30 from 10 a.m. until the time of the memorial service 11 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church of Royal Oak with the Rev. Dr. Thomas Rice and the Rev. Matthew Schramm officiating. Inurnment at White Chapel Memorial Cemetery in Troy. Memorials to First Presbyterian Church 529 Hendrie Boulevard Royal Oak MI 48067.
