Alma Fry (1919-2011)

Print

Alma Fry was born May 11 1919 to Nellie and Arthur Jones in Erie Pennsylvania. One of three children (both sister Gladyce and brother Ralph have predeceased her) she graduated from East Central High School in 1937. She attended Antioch College in Yellow Springs Ohio where she met her future husband David L. Fry and she graduated with a BS in psychology from Wayne State University as an adult some years later in 1965. David worked as a physicist in the Research Division of General Motors Corporation and Alma and David raised three sons; David E. a retired president of Northwood University; Lawrence B. a psychologist in Phoenix Arizona and Randall K. a business executive in Globe Arizona. Alma had several passions. She was a flower and vegetable gardener a performance musician primarily on the recorder and piano and a photographer who with David won numerous competitive photographic awards. Both were also widely experienced national and international travelers. Both were life-long members of the Unitarian-Universalist church. David retired early in 1982 in order that he and Alma could travel widely and practice photography while satisfying their thirst for adventure. They moved to Midland Michigan in the early 1990s where they grand parented their local grandchildren Juliane and Daniel Fry and their farther flung grandchildren on their trips around the country and the world. Alma Fry was a treasured friend to her acquaintances a role model for her daughters-in-law and an arbiter of what was "correct and expected" of her sons ever to the benefit of all. A memorial service will be held in the Spring. David L. Fry can be written at 2325 Rockwell Drive Apartment 113 Midland Michigan 49692. Funeral arrangements by the Hill Funeral Home 11723 S. Saginaw Street Grand Blanc Michigan 48439. 810-694-4141 Condolences may be left on-line at www.hillfh.com.
