Alan Edward "Manpower" Quirie, 76, a longtime resident of Royal Oak, died Saturday, March 8, 2008, at William Beaumont Hospital, Royal Oak. He was born Feb. 26, 1932, in Ferndale. Mr. Quirie was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in the Korean War. He worked as a mechanic at Ace Wilson's Royal Pontiac car dealership and later worked 10 years as a nurse at Clinton Valley Center, retiring in 1983. A CB and ham radio aficionado whose handle was "Manpower," Mr. Quirie also liked gardening and had an interest in automobiles. Surviving are his wife, Joyce Eileen (Whitmore), whom he wed Sept. 25, 1954; sister, Betty Carr; sister-in-law, Ruth Schlegelmann (Whitmore); brother-in-law, Elmer Edwards and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Jean Edwards, and parents, Wilfred and Ruth. Visitation, 2-9 p.m. Tuesday, Gramer Funeral Home, 705 N.
