The Rev. James E. Curtin, 83, died March 6, 2008, at Marywood Nursing Center, Livonia. He was born July 8, 1924, in Okmulgee, Okla., to James and Margaret (Brady) Curtin. Fr. Jim attended St. James Elementary and High Schools, graduated from Sacred Heart Seminary in Detroit, and studied at Mt. Saint Mary Seminary in Cincinnati and St. John Major Seminary in Plymouth. He was ordained June 7, 1952, and served as associate pastor at St. Mary in Monroe, St. Pius X in Southgate, St. Ambrose in Grosse Pointe Park, St. Mary in St. Clair, St. Angela in Roseville, and St. Hilary in Redford. Fr. Curtin was pastor at St. Francis of Assisi in New Haven and then St. Mary Magdalen of Melvindale until his retirement in 1999. Fr. Jim is survived by his siblings, Sr. Rebecca. Curtin, CSJ of Nazareth, Mich., Patrick J. (Carolyn) of Ferndale, Aileen (Ernie) Littlejohn of Belen, N.M., and Thomas M. (Nina) of Dawsonville, Ga.; nieces and nephews Lynn (Kelly) O'Meara, Patricia, Kelly Anne (Charles) Ruda, Caren (Richard) Straub, and James E. (Stacey); three great-nephews; and three great-nieces. He was predeceased by his parents; his sister Mary Margaret Morgan; and nephew Kevin B. Curtin. Visitation will be today, 2-9 p.m. with vigil service 7:30 p.m., at St. James Catholic Church, 241 Pearson, Ferndale. Fr. Curtin will lie in state Tuesday, 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. funeral Mass, at St. James. Interment will be at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Southfield.
