Alice Cecelia Whipple (nee Ashton) age 82 of Royal Oak passed October 22 2011. She was born November 21 1928. She attended Royal Oak High School and graduated from Mt. Sinai Nursing School. For more than 40 years she worked as a nurse for Dr. Edson Rupp and then Dr. John Schmitt. Alzheimer's had altered her life significantly but the loving care of her husband Russell made her final days comfortable and dignified. Alice was a happy loving and gentle wife mother and friend. She enjoyed many sports; skiing bowling travel and especially softball and golf. She is survived by Russell her husband of 62 years; daughter Cindy (John) McManamon; niece Ruth Chad; nephew Jap Singh Khalsa. Predeceased by grandson Coley Bryan McManamon. Memorial services will be held Thursday November 3 2011 12:30 p.m. in the Mausoleum at Oakview Cemetery 1032 N. Main Street Royal Oak. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made in her name to Royal Oak Animal Shelter 1515 N. Edgeworth Royal Oak MI 48067. The family has entrusted care and services to the L.J.
