Clara Blankenship, 100, of Gentry, Ark., formerly of Troy, died Feb. 20, 2008, at Siloam Springs Memorial Hospital, Siloam Springs, Ark. She was born Feb. 18,1908, in Long Pine, Neb., to Walter Bruce Coe and Mary Lovelady Coe. Mrs. Blankenship married Calvin Blankenship in December, 1925, in Detroit. She was involved in the Mother's Club, Blue Star Mothers, Order ofthe Eastern Star Chapter #495, Home Owner's Association and was the first woman to receive Troy's "Book of Golden Deeds" award. She was a charter and life member of "Friends of the Troy Library," was appointed to the Library Board, and the library's children's room was named in her honor. She moved to Arkansas in 1969, where she conducted historical and genealogical research. Mrs. Blankenship was a member of the NW Arkansas NLAPW Branch, Highfill Willing Workers, Springtown United Methodist Church, the James Bright Chapter NSDAR, the Springtown Extension Homemakers, and a charter member of the NW Arkansas Genealogical Society. She is survived by her grandchildren, Virginia (Fred) Poehlman, Karen Blankenship, Barbara Weaver, Clarence "Butch" Blankenship Jr., Roger (Jennifer) Blankenship, Wendy Blankenship and Timothy Savage; seven great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Calvin (Burt); daughters Mary Patricia Blankenship and Barbara Blankenship; son Clarence Blankenship; daughter-in-law Virginia Rose Blankenship; and granddaughter Susan Savage. A private burial was held at Centerton Cemetery in Centerton, Ark. Arrangements were handled by Wasson Funeral Home, Siloam Springs, Ark. Sign the online guest book at www.wassonfuneralhome.com.
