Randall "Randy" Schnell, 43, a lifelong resident of Troy, died Friday, Jan. 4, 2008, in Springfield Township. He was born Aug. 15, 1964, in Ferndale. Mr. Schnell graduated from Troy High School. He was an environmental abatement worker with Union Local 207 for seven years. He loved fishing, hunting, outdoor activities and nature. He also was a huge fan of NHRA Drag Racing. There were many other avocations in his life: Bachman-Turner Overdrive and country music, hot air balloons, trucking (he aspired to be a long-haul trucker), wood working and anything else with his hands, traveling around the entire United States, and most especially his dachshund, Rusty. His family and friends will remember that he had a big sweet tooth, a booming laugh and was a little stubborn. He followed his dreams. Surviving are his father, Donald Schnell; sisters, Deanna (Donald) Clayton, Deborah (Mark) Bums, Dorothy (Roy) Burns, Doreen (Mike) Burgess and Dawn (Erich) Kopp; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his mother, Sharon Schnell, on Oct. 23, 1985; and brothers, Ronald and Michael Schnell. A private service was held. Arrangements were handled by A.J. Desmond & Sons Funeral Home, Troy, obit.desmondfuneralhome.com. Memorial tributes may be made to the Michigan Humane Society, 30300 Telegraph Road, Suite 230, Bingham Farms, MI 48025-4507 or the Brain Injury Association of Michigan, 8137 Grand River, Suite A, Brighton, MI 48116.
