Dan DeLong, 80, formerly of Royal Oak, died Thursday, Dec. 20, 2007, after a long illness. He was born April 7, 1927, in Highland Park, to Remer and Julia DeLong. Mr. DeLong, who lived most his life in Royal Oak, graduated from Royal Oak St. Mary's Catholic School and joined the Merchant Marines immediately after graduation in 1945. Mr. DeLong worked for and later became owner of his father's business, Oven King Cookies in Roseville, until the business was sold in 1972. In 1971, he moved his family to Armada, where they lived until 1984. He returned to Royal Oak where he lived the remainder of his life. After a brief career in real estate, Mr. DeLong spent many years in sales, first with Art Van Furniture and later Gardner White Furniture. Upon retirement, he continued to work part time at Sears. He was a dedicated fan of Detroit sports, a longtime season ticket holder of the Detroit Lions and enjoyed the Pistons, Tigers and Red Wings. His love of sports included coaching his sons during many little league seasons. Surviving are his wife, Hazel Marion; children, Susan DeLong of Royal Oak, Linda (Doug) Bess of Battle Creek, Bill (Sandy) De-Long of Goodells, Mike (Stacey) DeLong of Hickory, N.C., Patty (Joe) Wineland of Rifle, Colo., Robert (Kerry) DeLong of Colorado Springs, Colo. and Dan (Terri) DeLong II of Lapeer; stepchildren, Sharon (Perry) Carlos of Jacksonville, Fla., Ed (Jean) Brinkel of Novi, Sandy (Gerry) Gatt of Grosse Ile, Ernie (LeeAnn) Brinkel of Warren, Cindy (Kerry) Pytel of Grosse Pointe Woods and Todd (Tina) Brinkel of Ann Arbor; 15 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren, 15 step-grandchildren and one step-great-grandchild. He was predeceased by his first wife of 35 years, Gloria (Dill-away), and brothers William De-Long and Walter DeLong. Memorial service, 1 p.m. Wednesday, St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, 5500 N.
