Cornelius Baas Sr., 81, a longtime resident of Royal Oak and formerly of Clawson, died Dec. 14, 2007, at William Beaumont Hospi- tal in Royal Oak. Mr. Baas was born Dec. 12, 1926, in Hazel Park. Following his attendance at Hazel Park High School, Mr. Baas proudly served in the United States Civil Air Patrol during WWII. He was a former member of the National Model Railroad Association. He enjoyed family reunions, model trains, woodworking, tall ships and light houses. Mr. Baas especially enjoyed rides through the city where he would reminisce about the history of Detroit. Mr. Baas is survived by his children, Claudia (Mike) Ludwig, Janet (Art) Payne, Cornelius (Bernita) Jr., Betsy and Vanessa (David) Riley, stepchildren, Diane Hart and Gayle Haynie, 12 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Rudolph H. Baas, Jr and long-time friend, Becky Barrgato. Mr. Baas was preceded in death by his first wife, Betty J., in 1994 and his second wife, Elsie, in 1999. Visitation at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, 1368 N. Crooks Road (Between 14-15 Mile Rds.) Monday 1-9 p.m. Interment will take place privately in White Chapel Cemetery, Troy.
