Shirley M. Jones, 76, a long time resident of Royal Oak, died Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2007, at William Beaumont Hospital, Royal Oak. She was born April 6, 1931, in Detroit to Roy and Irene Travis. In her early years she served our country as a civilian employee of the Coast Guard on the Put-In-Bay boat. She enjoyed studying Native American history and was a distributor of Viviane Woodard Cosmetics. She was a very artistic person and enjoyed ceramics. Mrs. Jones was predeceased by her husband, Kenneth, in 1983. They were married in Hazel Park in 1952. Surviving are her children, Shelly (Rev. E. Frank) Whitney of Jefferson City, Mo., Don (Hisham Sahom) Jones of Big Rapids, Sherry Austin of Dexter and Sheila Jones of Royal Oak; siblings, Jim (Carolyn) Cummins of Waterford and Roberta (Bobby) Wright of Sterling Heights; and grandchildren, Matthew and Tamara Whitney, Adrienne Jones and Jessica Swindell.
