Aileen C. Coon, 83, of Troy since 2006, formerly of Royal Oak from 19522006, died Monday, Nov. 26, 2007, at William Beaumont Hospital, Royal Oak. She was born April 11,1924, in Calumet to the late William J. and. Ruth (nee Smothers) Cahoon. Mrs. Coon was raised in Houghton and graduated from Houghton High School in 1942, and is a graduate of St. Joseph's School of Nursing, Hancock. She retired in 1974 from William Beaumont Hospital, Royal Oak, after 10 years of service. She was very proud of her work as a nurse in the labor and delivery department. Mrs. Coon enjoyed returning to the Copper Country to swim in Lake Superior, visit relatives and snowshoe in the winter. She also was a Girl Scout leader for many years. She was predeceased by her husband, George N. Coon, on Sept. 20, 2007. They were married June 23, 1947, at St. Ignatius Church, Houghton. Surviving are her children, William G. (Kathy) Coon of Royal Oak, Patricia M. (Gerald) Venteicher of Bosier City, La., Margaret R. Wilson of Lansing, Mary Aileen Zimmerman of Jonesville, and Julie Anne Jones of Sterling Heights; sisters and brothers, Sr. Mary Odile Cahoon, OSB (Margery) of Duluth, Minn., and William J. Cahoon of Centerville, Ohio; 14 grandchildren; and one greatgrandson and one greatgranddaughter. Mrs. Coon also was predeceased by her sister, Sr. Janelle Cahoon, OSB (Patricia).
