Catherine V. von Schon, 87, of Stoney Brook, N.Y., formerly of Ferndale, died Tuesday Nov. 20, 2007, in New York. She was born Oct. 2, 1920 in Arlington, Va. to Francis and Catherine von Schon. Ms. von Schon was a graduate of Ferndale High School. She went on to attend Hillsdale College, after graduating in 1942; she worked as an interpreter during the Nuremberg Trials. Her passion was to study different languages. Ms. von Schon was multilingual, speaking fluently in English, German and French. She worked at the Daily Tribune fora short time and then went on to earn a second degree from the University of Michigan in Library Science. She worked at the University of Michigan Library until moving to Stoney Brook, N.Y., located on Long Island, where she worked as a librarian at Stoney Brook State University until she retired.
