David "Mouse" Kays, 52, of Oak Park, died Thursday Nov. 15, 2007, at Detroit Receiving Hospital. Mr. Kays attended Berkley High School in the 1970s and held many certificates in the field of tool repair and maintenance. He owned and operated his own business, Kays Maintenance, which specialized in construction, remodeling and maintenance. Mr. Kays, also known as Dave or "Mouse" by his many friends, was an avid Harley Davidson enthusiast and an avid outdoorsman. His family described him as a devoted husband and father. His passion for life was not only his family and motorcycle, but his extended family through the American Legion, where he was active not only in the Sons of the American Legion (S.A.L.), but also in American Legion Riders (A.L.R). He was a member of American Legion Charles Edwards Post 14, Birmingham/Troy. He held the position of sergeantatarms in the S.A.L. for many years, as well as being a member of the Honor Guard Memorial Team. He also held the position of road captain of the A.L.R. His biggest accomplishment with the S.A.L. was forming the "Flags for Classrooms" program, which is dedicated to placing American flags in all school classrooms of Oakland County, a program inspired by his daughter Marina. Mr. Kays is survived by his wife of 18 years, Ann (Sosnowski); daughters, Ashley Lauren, Marina Allison, and Rheanna Lynn, all of Oak Park; son, David James; brother, Michael Kays of White Lake; sisterinlaw, Lisa Kays of Clinton Township; niece, Tamra Reid of Commerce Township; nephew, Michael "Mikey" Kays, Jr. of Middleville, Pa.; halfbrother, Meldon Deck; stepbrothers, Don Deck of Oak Park and Steve Deck of Arkansas; and several aunts, uncles, cousins and his riding brothers and American Legion family. He was predeceased by his parents, John A. Kays, Jr. and 'Delores Deck. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at SawyerFuller Funeral Home, 2125 W 12 Mile, Berkley, with Deacon Brian Carroll of Our Lady of LaSalette Catholic Church, officiating.
