Allen "Buzzy" Burgess, 102, a Hazel Park resident since 1926, died Thursday, Sept. 6, 2007, in Sterling Heights. He was born in Detroit to John and Margaret (Brown) Burgess. Mr. Burgess worked for General Motors, Fisher Body Division, in Detroit for 44 years in the Material Control Department. Three days after retiring in 1969 he started working as an assistant at Ashley Scott Funeral Home in Hazel Park where he worked for 36 years until he was 100 years old. It was a trait that made him a valuable asset to the funeral home where he always felt needed and wanted. Some of his favorite past times were feeding the birds, planting flowers and shopping. Mr. Burgess served on the Hazel Park Planning Commission and helped build and carried cement blocks for the Erickson Public Library in Hazel Park. He was a member of St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church, Hazel Park, for more than 60 years.
