Coloring and Crafts: Ages 18 & Over

We have the space and a block of time you can use to color or work on any craft or creative project you would like. Coloring materials (sheets and pencils) will be provided, but we also invite you to work on any craft or creative projects you may have in progress in the library auditorium. Bring a couple of scrapbook pages, a pair of socks you started to knit, or grab a book on origami and give it a try. All crafters are welcome. We would love to see what you are working on! ESL Saturday Morning Conversations

10:30 am -11:30 am

Practice conversational English in a relaxed setting with other ESL learners on Saturday mornings from 10:30am to 11:30am in the library's auditorium. A brief video or presentation will be shared at the beginning of the hour to introduce the week’s topic and offer conversation starting points. Registration is not required. Family Story Times

10:15 am -10:45 am

These 30-minute story times for ages 5 and under with their adults incorporate many enjoyable pre-reading skills including stories, rhymes, songs, finger plays, movement, and a craft. The same program is repeated on Monday and Wednesday mornings.

Registration System for All Story Times: Story times are “Ticketed Drop-In” which means there is no advance registration. On the day of the program, visit the Youth Services Information Desk and pick up a numbered ticket which will be available 15 minutes before the program begins. Most story times have 24 spots available.

Book Buddies Book Club Meeting: Ages 5-8

4:30 pm -5:30 pm

Book Buddies is a book club for ROPL’s youngest independent readers, ages 5-8 in grades K-3. Participants will get a copy of the book to keep when they sign up in person at the Youth Services Desk. Book Buddies Book Club includes activities, book discussions, and snacks based on the book. Limit 25 per session.

Curious George Discovers the Rainbow by H.A. Rey
Curious George Discovers the Rainbow is part of a new Science Storybook series by H. A. Rey. George’s city friends Betsy and Steve are taking their first trip to visit him in the country. When a light rain casts a stunning rainbow in the sky, George is introduced to all the beautiful colors of the spectrum! Come along as he chases the rainbow for his pot of gold and learns all about how rainbows occur and even how to create his own.

Preschool Story Times for Ages 3-5

These 45-minute sessions are designed for preschoolers who enjoy more extended stories, movement, music and crafts. Adults stay with the children and younger siblings may attend but these sessions are developmentally appropriate for ages 3-5.

Personal Finance Workshops

Increase your financial literacy with the help of three free spring workshops, on select Tuesdays at 6:30 pm beginning April 11. The following workshops will be hosted by a program instructor from the Michigan State University Extension Service:

April 11: Rent Smart!
Considering renting but no sure where to start? Already a seasoned renter but want to learn how to become a better one? This two-hour session will address such topics as getting your money in order, understanding the rental process, and being a good tenant. The workshop will be held in the Friends Auditorium.

April 25: Student Loans, Part 1:
Accessing and Applying for Student Loans This two-hour session will address how to prepare financially for college, what the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and financial aid process look like, and how to choose a loan. The workshop will be held in Meeting Rooms C-D.

May 2: Student Loans, Part 2: Understanding
Repayment Options for Student Loans A webinar will provide a one-hour tutorial on the various options available for federal, PLUS, and private student loans. Eligibility criteria, loan consolidation best practices, and tips to avoid default will be provided. The workshop will be held in the Friends Auditorium.
