Preschool Story Times for Ages 3-5

10:15 am -10:45 am

These 45-minute sessions are designed for preschoolers who enjoy more extended stories, movement, music and crafts. Adults stay with the children and younger siblings may attend but these sessions are developmentally appropriate for ages 3-5.

Registration System for All Story Times: Story times are “Ticketed Drop-In” which means there is no advance registration. On the day of the program, visit the Youth Services Information Desk and pick up a numbered ticket which will be available 15 minutes before the program begins. Most story times have 24 spots available.

Music with Miss Ann

Join Miss Ann and her guitar for songs and musical stories. This is an entertaining way to practice important pre-reading skills by singing, rhyming, and adding to the beat with shakers and other percussion instruments. Registration is requested. Limit 40. Family Story Times

These 30-minute story times for ages 5 and under with their adults incorporate many enjoyable pre-reading skills including stories, rhymes, songs, finger plays, movement, and a craft. The same program is repeated on Monday and Wednesday mornings.

Growing Ideas Writing Series

Growing Ideas: Generating & Developing Fiction and Non-Fiction, is a three-part writing series offered by author and writing professor Alicia Schaeffer. This series will be offered Wednesday nights, starting March 29 at 7:00 pm.

The first session encourages participants to feed the imagination and pull from one’s experience to spark fiction and non-fiction material. As the sessions advance on April 5 and April 12, participants will be able to develop their ideas into more formal pieces, and share and revise.

Schaeffer is a professor of Composition, Rhetoric, and Creative Writing at the University of Michigan-Dearborn, and she has led creative writing workshops in New York. Her writing has appeared or is forthcoming in Post Road Magazine, Word Riot, Georama Travel Blog, Woman About Town, Beyond Service, and The Harlem Times.

Registration is required for this series in the Friends Auditorium. Register below or call the Adult Reference Desk at (248) 246-3727 to sign up for these free programs.

The library’s popular writing instructor, Cindy La Ferle, will return in the spring. Further details and dates are to be announced.

Baby Size!

These story times are for the youngest children, infants to 15 months, and their caregivers. Enjoy 30 minutes of literacy building activities for babies including songs and rhymes and sharing board books. Older siblings may attend, but these sessions are designed for babies up through 15 months old. Join the fun!

ESL Saturday Morning Conversations

Practice conversational English in a relaxed setting with other ESL learners on Saturday mornings from 10:30am to 11:30am in the library's auditorium. A brief video or presentation will be shared at the beginning of the hour to introduce the week’s topic and offer conversation starting points. Registration is not required.
