Glassland
(2014)
John (Jack Reynor) lives with his mother, Jean (Toni Collette), in a social housing suburb and ekes out a meager living as a nocturnal taxi driver. John returns home one morning to find his mother unconscious from an alcohol overdose; however this was not the first time. Jean violently rejects John's attempts to help as well as his intentions to unite the family. When Jean is offered an opportunity to recover, and with no savings or insurance, John is forced to offer his services to a petty criminal to help pay for his mother's costly rehab program. John is subsequently faced with a life-changing task that may change him and his family's lives forever. In English. 93 minutes.

Rob St. Mary, author of The Orbit Magazine Anthology: Re-Entry, a 2016 Michigan Notable Book, will visit the library in the Friends Auditorium. A metro Detroit native, St. Mary has created an oversized, heavily illustrated volume that not only details Orbit’s irreverent tone and unique editorial features, but those of its predecessors, White Noise (1978-1980) and Fun: The Magazine for Swinging Intellectuals (1986-1990). Those two publications were created by Jerry Peterson, a.k.a. Jerry Vile, who wrote the foreword to St. Mary’s book. Registration is requested. Limit 100. Register below or call the Adult Reference Desk at (248) 246-3727.

Copies of The Orbit Magazine Anthology: Re-Entry will be available for purchase and signing by the author after the presentation.
