When Hollywood Went to War
is the real life story of nearly 90 celebrities who served in the United States Military during World War II. These 1940’s celebrities, young and some older, took time out in their successful careers to protect and preserve our freedom. This presentation will explain where they went to serve and what battlefields and/or naval battles they experienced. This lecture and multi-media presentation is 60 minutes in length. Be prepared for some real surprises! Registration is requested. Limit 100.

Book Buddies is a book club for ROPL’s youngest independent readers, ages 5-8 in grades K-3. Each participant will get their own copy of the book to keep when they sign up at the Youth Services Desk. Club meetings are 45-60 minutes and include activities, book discussions, and snacks based on the book. Limit 25 per session.

“Want to see something incredible? I can twist my arm all the way around. All it takes is a little magic”…and so Mike finds himself in another adventure with his friend Nora and and Mr. Zerlin, owner of a magic shop called The White Rabbit. If you enjoyed The Vanishing Coin (Book Buddies’ February 2016 selection) or you are new to Mike and Nora’s adventures, read The Incredible Twisting Arm.

These 30-minute story times for ages 5 and under with their adults incorporate many enjoyable pre-reading skills including stories, rhymes, songs, finger plays, movement, and a craft. The same program is repeated on Monday and Wednesday mornings.

Registration System for Story Times: Story times are “ticketed drop-in” which means there is no advance registration. On the day of the program, visit the Youth Services Desk and pick up a numbered ticket which will be available 15 minutes before the program begins. Most story times have 24 spots available.

New story times for the youngest children, infants to 15 months and their adults. Enjoy 30 minutes of language building activities for babies including songs, rhymes, and play. Older siblings may attend, but these sessions are designed for babies up through 15 months old. Join the fun!

Take a break and enjoy live music at the Royal Oak Public Library! Join us on Saturday, November 12 at 3:00 pm as we take a journey back in time with the music of the Vintage Stringband. The Vintage Stringband is an eclectic group of eight southeast Michigan musicians bound together by their passion for playing music and their desire to share their musical joy with others. They play old-time, Celtic and other types of tunes with an interesting blend of instruments. Registration is requested. Limit 100.
