Join Cindy La Ferle and other writers and journalists for three monthly workshops on Wednesdays designed to sharpen your writing, self-presentation and public relations skills.

On Nov. 2, La Ferle will host "Writing Your Own Hero's Journey," a personal writing class aimed at telling your life story as a journey where you look at the highs and lows of your life as story material. La Ferle, a columnist for Michigan Prime and author of Writing Home, a book of essays and articles, has offered many popular memoir-writing classes at the library. 

All of the free workshops will run from 7:00 pm until 8:30 pm in the Friends Auditorium. Registration is requested. Limit 30. Register below or call the Adult Reference Desk at (248) 246-3727.

When Hollywood Went to War
is the real life story of nearly 90 celebrities who served in the United States Military during World War II. These 1940’s celebrities, young and some older, took time out in their successful careers to protect and preserve our freedom. This presentation will explain where they went to serve and what battlefields and/or naval battles they experienced. This lecture and multi-media presentation is 60 minutes in length. Book Buddies is a book club for ROPL’s youngest independent readers, ages 5-8 in grades K-3. Each participant will get their own copy of the book to keep when they sign up at the Youth Services Desk. Club meetings are 45-60 minutes and include activities, book discussions, and snacks based on the book. Limit 25 per session.

New story times for the youngest children, infants to 15 months and their adults. Enjoy 30 minutes of language building activities for babies including songs, rhymes, and play. Older siblings may attend, but these sessions are designed for babies up through 15 months old. Join the fun!
