El Deafo by Cece Bell

This graphic novel memoir by Cece Bell is a book about growing up and some of the embarrassing moments along the way. Cece, using the cumbersome Phonic Ear to allow her to hear, starts in a new school. She learns that with the Phonic Ear she can hear everything the teacher is saying not just in the classroom but also in the teachers’ lounge and the restroom. Cece is on her way to using her superpower to become El Deafo, Listener for All. But, can Cece channel her powers into finding the thing she wants most, a true friend?
