When, at the age of 33, Birmingham social worker Kristin Meekhof lost her husband to cancer, she discovered what all widows learn: the moment you lose your partner, you must make crucial decisions that will impact the rest of your life. But where do you begin?

On Saturday, February 11 from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm, Ms. Meekhof will be at the library to discuss her book, A Widow’s Guide to Healing: Gentle Support and Advice for the First 5 Years, a much-needed blueprint for grieving widows to face the often overwhelming challenges of their new reality. From immediate issues like finances, estates and medical bills to long-term hurdles such as single parenthood, being a widow in the workplace and navigating social situations by yourself, this inspiring book gently and clearly guides widows through the tumultuous and painful first five years to a more hopeful and happier future.

Books will be available for cash sales ($15) and author signing after presentation.

This presentation is free to participants and is geared towards widows, older adults and their adult children, community organizations and any other interested members of the community.

Registration is requested. Limit 100. Register below or call the Adult Reference Desk at (248) 246-3727 to sign up for this free program.
