These 30-minute story times for ages 5 and under with their adults incorporate many enjoyable pre-reading skills including stories, rhymes, songs, finger plays, movement, and a craft. The same program is repeated on Monday and Wednesday mornings.

Registration System for Story Times: Story times are “ticketed drop-in” which means there is no advance registration. On the day of the program, visit the Youth Services Desk and pick up a numbered ticket which will be available 15 minutes before the program begins. Most story times have 24 spots available.

New story times for the youngest children, infants to 15 months and their adults. Enjoy 30 minutes of language building activities for babies including songs, rhymes, and play. Older siblings may attend, but these sessions are designed for babies up through 15 months old. Join the fun!

Assemble a Lego scene and write about what is happening in it. Your Lego creation and story will be displayed in the library until the next Lego Time session. Registration is requested. Limit 36.

Check out our coloring program for adults! We will supply all of the materials for this series: sheets from adult coloring books, pencils, and crayons, or you can bring your own. Take a break and enjoy live music at the Royal Oak Public Library! Join us on Saturday, November 12 at 3:00 pm as we take a journey back in time with the music of the Vintage Stringband. The Vintage Stringband is an eclectic group of eight southeast Michigan musicians bound together by their passion for playing music and their desire to share their musical joy with others. They play old-time, Celtic and other types of tunes with an interesting blend of instruments. Registration is requested. Limit 100.

The girl singers of the bands of the 30's and 40's emerged from merely window dressing to being as important to a bands success as the musicians themselves. They became stars of the era, and beyond. Tonight we're going to profile some of those "canaries," such as Ella Fitzgerald, Helen Forrest, Kay Starr and Margaret Whiting, as we listen to them sing some of the top songs of the Big Band Era. Registration is requested. Limit 100.
