Growing Ideas: Generating & Developing Fiction and Non-Fiction, a series offered by author and University of Michigan- Dearborn professor Alicia Schaeffer, will be held Wednesday nights, March 29, April 5, and April 12 at 7:00 pm. The free series will help you generate ideas and master tools to help them come alive.

The first session encourages participants to feed the imagination and pull from one’s experience to spark fiction and non-fiction material. As the sessions advance, participants will be able to develop their ideas into more formal pieces, and share and revise.

“I often think of this course as a process similar to gardening,” Schaeffer said. “We begin by choosing seeds (generating ideas), then plant and nourish them (experimenting with ideas through prompts, sharing short works, and receiving feedback from peers and instructor), and then progress further by responding to what has grown (revision, inspiring new work).”Schaeffer is a professor of Composition, Rhetoric, and Creative Writing at the University of Michigan – Dearborn. Her writing has appeared or is forthcoming in Post Road Magazine, Word Riot, Georama Travel Blog, Women About Town, Beyond Service, and The Harlem Times.
